(Blancpain Spécialités Tourbillon Diamants)

When speaking about very expensive watches, we usually tend to think that the price must be proportional to the quantity of precious jewels it could contain. Most of these timepieces do not have any jewels (aside from synthetic rubies in the movement). An answer could be the time involved in making them.
Blancpain is one of the luxurius brands capable of producing a neatly pack with a healthy amount of impressive jewel work in the 40mm wide white gold case of its newest flagship haute joaillerie watch for men.
The Blancpain Spécialités Tourbillon Diamants timepieces were produced in a limited edition in which, the time of craftsmanship is gold as intense hours are required to simply select the proper stones and then cut them. Its timepiece dial, bezel, crown and rear reveal a complex patterning of various baguette cut stones. Twelve lines of diamonds form the dial in order to serve as hour markers.
The count of over 20 carats of diamonds in the watch might convey that Blancpain is attempting to present this Spécialités Tourbillon Diamants as merely a vehicle for diamond splendor, it is rather closer to an horological obligation. The high houses of watch making must continue to assert themselves mechanically as well as luxuriously. Blancpaine favors 18k white gold and a dizzying amount of diamonds being an obvious expression of this concept. It is then the responsibility of the brand to ensure its latest haute joaillerie offering is also aesthetically pleasing and awe inspiring. The privilege to call one yours comes with the approximate price of $1,342,700.

Timepiece main characteristics:

40mm wide 18k white gold watch case
Flying tourbillion carriage window
Caliber 25A in-house automatic mechanical movement visible through sapphire caseback
Reptile strap with matching 18k gold diamond covered buckle
164 baguette-cut diamonds on dial with total 20.14 carats of diamonds on watch

BLANCPAIN “SAINT-VALENTIN 2010”: An authentic jewellery creation.

For the first time in its history, Blancpain has created a special-shaped watch*. The Manufacture in Le Brassus is presenting an authentic jeweller creation set with over 500 diamonds and pink sapphires, and housing the world’s smallest self-winding movement, Calibre 615. This extraordinary timepiece is to be issued in a symbolically limited edition of 14 to celebrate Valentine’s Day 2010.

This exceptional creation is an anthem to Love and to Femininity, starting with the white and pink mother-of-pearl dial forming a heart and framed by a bezel set with over 500 diamonds and pink sapphires. A heart-cut diamond also appears at 12 o’clock, while the pin buckle is set with a pearshaped pink sapphire.

The exquisite beauty of this exceptional two-hand watch also lies in the slenderness of its movement. Blancpain is proudly reintroducing the famous “Lady Bird” Calibre 615, still regarded as the world’s smallest self-winding movement and which can be admired through the sapphire crystal case-back.

This shaped watch is delivered with two genuine satin straps – one black and the other white. It comes in an extremely elegant presentation box featuring a design reflecting the pure lines of this dainty Valentine’s Day model crafted in a strictly limited edition of 14.

Madoff auction welcomes bids on wristwatches like: Rolex, Ulysse Nardin, Blancpain, Piaget, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, IWC and Jaeger LeCoultre.

(Bernard Lawrence “Bernie” Madoff)

.
.
.

Bernard Lawrence “Bernie” Madoff was born on April 29, 1938. He is the former Chairman of the NASDAQ stock exchange and the admitted operator of the Ponzi scheme that might be “the largest investment fraud in Wall Street history”.
In March 2009, Madoff pleaded guilty to 11 felonies and admitted to turning his wealth management business into a massive Ponzi scheme that defrauded thousands of investors of billions of dollars. Madoff said he began the Ponzi scheme in the early 1990s. However, federal investigators believe the fraud began as early as the 1980s. The amount missing from client accounts, including fabricated gains, was almost $65 billion. The court appointed trustee estimated actual losses to investors of $18 billion. On June 29, 2009, he was sentenced to 150 years in prison, the maximum allowed.
Madoff founded the Wall Street firm Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC in 1960, and was its chairman until his arrest on December 11, 2008. The firm was one of the top market maker businesses on Wall Street, which bypassed “specialist” firms by directly executing orders over the counter from retail brokers.
On December 10, 2008, Madoff’s sons told authorities that their father had just confessed to them that the asset management arm of his firm was a massive Ponzi scheme, and quoting him as saying it was “one big lie”. The following day, FBI agents arrested Madoff and charged him with one count of securities fraud. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had previously conducted several investigations into Madoff’s business practices since 1992, which critics contend were incompetently handled.

Blancpain Lamborghini: Last leg of the Super Trofeo championship season

Blancpain Supertrofeo(Last leg of the Super Trofeo championship season)

.

The first season of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo was brought to a magnificent conclusion in the sunshine of Provence. Marc A. Hayek and Peter Kox once again achieved impressive performances on the Paul Ricard track in Le Castellet. After six Grand Prix events comprising 18 races held between May and October, the Hayek and Kox pair competing with the Reiter Engineering team earned the 2nd spot in the team ranking. Blancpain’s President and CEO also took 2nd place on the Pro-Am podium, while his co-driver from the Netherlands came 2nd in the Pro category. These spectacular final results set the crowning touch to the association of skills initiated a year ago between the Manufacture from Le Brassus and the Italian automobile manufacturer.

This alliance has also given rise to the Super Trofeo Blancpain Chronograph*, a limited series composed of high-tech materials and featuring a sporting look inspired by the automobile world. Snapped up immediately by eager enthusiasts, all 300 of these Super Trofeo chronographs have become instant collector’s items that give a foretaste of the forthcoming horological creations from the Manufacture, in cooperation with the engineers of the Italian firm. On the track side, the two next Lamborghini Blancpain

Super Trofeo seasons are already scheduled on the 2010 and 2011 racing calendars, and will once again feature the participation of Marc A.

The new 500 Fathoms surfaces in the Old Port of Cannes.

(The new 500 Fathoms surfaces)

Blancpain presents the “1big sister” of its famous Fifty Fathoms watch: the brand-new 500 Fathoms. More high-performance and high-tech than ever, the brand’s latest diver’s watch displays an uncompromisingly sporting design. Water-resistant to 1000 metres, it is equipped with a helium decompression valve that is vital when diving in a closed environment. The ultra-virile 500 Fathoms is fi tted with a 48 mm-diameter titanium case – an unusual size for Blancpain.

Presented as the ultimate sports watch, the 500 Fathoms is making a striking entrance into the collection of Blancpain diver’s watches. Endowed with a new face, a new size and new performances, the 500 Fathoms is water-resistant to 1000 metres. It features a brushed titanium case measuring 48 mm in diameter, equipped with a crown guard. Placed inside the case at 10 o’clock, an automatic decompression valve guarantees the security and the reliability of the watch, without requiring any handling on the part of the wearer.

To enhance readability, Blancpain has designed large phosphorescent Arabic numerals that are hollowed into the sunray-brushed metal appliques. The luminescent coating on the hour-markers, bezel markings and hands, along with the red tip of the sweep seconds hand, ensure optimal readability in all circumstances. The luminescent base of the black dial reveals its fluorescence only in the dark, while the date appears in white against a black background at 4 o’clock. The unidirectional ratcheted bezel facilitates handling and avoids any involuntary extension of the dive time. Crafted in titanium and sapphire crystal, it features a gentle cambered relief that reduces the risk of impacts.

(The new 500 Fathoms surfaces)

The 500 Fathoms is powered by the self-winding Calibre 1315, specifically designed to equip sports watches. It incorporates balance with micrometric regulating screws, which helps to prevent any jarring from disturbing the smooth running of the watch. Three series coupled barrels guarantee constant energy and a five-day power reserve. The calendar mechanism enables the user to make fast date adjustments in either direction even at midnight, without any risk of damaging the mechanism. Another noteworthy feature of the 500 Fathoms is its sapphire crystal allowing one to admire its self-winding movement, as well as its engraved oscillating weight shaped like a boat propeller, without compromising either water resistance or safety.
The new 500 Fathoms is equipped with a sturdy, sporty and watertight strap in rubber-lined black sail canvas. A brand-new triple-blade folding clasp secured with two pushers on either sides sets the finishing touch, while an additional rubber strap and the implement required to fit it complete the set which comes in an ultra-rugged presentation box designed to withstand extreme conditions. The performances and the reliability of the 500 Fathoms represent a major new technical accomplishment bearing the unmistakable signature of Blancpain, which is thereby eloquently reaffirming the expertise of its Manufacture in the demanding world of diver’s watches.

BLANCPAIN, THE PRIVILEGED PARTNER OF PRESTIGE YACHTING

For the fifth consecutive year, Blancpain is dropping anchor in the Old Port of Cannes. A partner of the 32nd edition of the International Boat Show, Blancpain is marking the occasion by announcing the worldwide launch of its brand-new 500 Fathoms diver’s watch. And as the icing on the cake, the Manufacture from Le Brassus is presenting a world first on the Blancpain booth: a 500 Fathoms Cannes 2009 limited series of 50 dedicated to sea-lovers.

The Blancpain story is written in “navy” blue since 1953, the debut year of the first modern diver’s watch, the Fifty Fathoms. Blancpain regularly celebrates its historical ties with the maritime world. In 2007, Blancpain naturally chose the Cannes International Boat Show to launch its “new wave” Fifty Fathoms watch. This year, to mark its fifth participation in the prestigious yachting event, Blancpain is announcing the launch of its brand-new 500 Fathoms and presenting a special edition of this model, issued in a limited series of 50.

The resolutely sporting 500 Fathoms is making a noteworthy entrance into the collection of Blancpain diver’s watches. Endowed with a new face, new dimensions and new performances, the 500 Fathoms may in some ways be considered the “big sister” (size-wise) of the famous Fifty Fathoms*. Measuring an impressive 48 mm in diameter, the new 500 Fathoms is water-resistant to 1000 metres. An automatic decompression valve, placed inside the brushed titanium case, guarantees the security and reliability of the watch without requiring any handling on the part of the wearer.

To enhance legibility, Blancpain has designed large phosphorescent Arabic numerals engraved into sunbrushed metal appliques. The luminescent coating applied to the hour-markers, bezel markings and hands, as well as the red tip of the central seconds hand, ensures ideally convenient read-off in all circumstances. The black luminescent base of the dial reveals its fluorescence only in the dark. The oneway rotating bezel made from titanium and scratch-proof sapphire crystal is notched to facilitate handling and slightly cambered to reduce the risk of impacts.

The sapphire crystal back enables one to admire the entirely hand-decorated self-winding Calibre 1315 with its propeller-shaped oscillating weight. The 500 Fathoms Cannes 2009 model comes fitted with a black rubber-lined sail canvas strap, while an additional rubber strap and a dedicated tool to secure it lend the finishing touch to this set delivered in an ultra-sturdy watertight presentation box designed to withstand extreme conditions.

*Born in 1953 from Blancpain’s encounter with two French naval officers – Captain Robert “Bob” Maloubier and Lieutenant Claude Riffaud, who were entrusted by the French Ministry of Defence with creating an elite “Combat Divers” unit – the Fifty Fathoms proved its worth by displaying an ability to withstand the extreme conditions characteristic of underwater military operations. Named after the water resistance of the original model, guaranteed to a depth of 50 fathoms (91.45 metres), this mechanical masterpiece soon earned a reputation for reliability and sturdiness, thereby asserting itself as the archetypal modern diver’s watch.

The Blancpain Carrousel Volant Une Minute

(The Blancpain Carrousel Volant Une Minute)

The Blancpain Carrousel Volant Une Minute watch is a new complicated watch from Blancpain that confirms the passion for inventive haute horlogerie that made the brand a untouchable reference among collectors. This watch’s remarkable movement was inspired by the carrousel, an invention of Danish watchmaker Bahne Bonniksen. Created in its original form in 1892, the carrousel was to count the effects of gravity upon the escapement of a timepiece. The carrousel has been meticulously engineered to complete a single revolution each minute, another factor that makes it remarkable; traditional carrousels completed a single rotation at an unspecified rate that could vary between 27 and 42 minutes.

The importance of Divers’ watches precision.

The quality of the equipment while diving turns to be more than an important issue before descending into deep ocean. Diver’s watches are specially designed for deep depths and equipped with its special case, as protecting the case is the main goal.
In order to be considered a diving one, a watch must be qualified as suitable for up to 150 metres / 450 feet, even though most of the watches considered to be suitable for diving are appropriate for more than 200 meters.
The “O” rings, usually made of nylon, are a very important part of submersible watches as it works as a protection sealing for the case and also for the crown. In order to avoid case deformations caused by the pressured of depth, most of the cases are produced with extra thick walls.
Even though, because of the potential risks, divers do not usually reach such deep profundities, watches show such depth capabilities because of the way their hermetecism is tested. This procedure is done in a static way and pressure in real life is much more, as the watch is being moved attached to a diver’s arm. As a direct consequence of this fact, a watch that is just used to swim must be at least submersible up to 50 meters at least.
The unidirectional bezel is what gives divers’ watches their most popular characteristic, as each immersion has a limit of elapsed time. That’s why it is more than important to have precise elements as divers life is in constant risk.
Just by rotating the bezel till the minute hand at the moment in which the immersion starts, the diver will perfectly know for how long he has remain in depth. The reason of featuring a unidirectional rotating bezel is that if by accident it moves on its own, it would only short time remaining instead of extending it, keeping the diver’s life safe.
Another important part of the watch related to keeping diver’s life safe is the seconds hand which when ascending it marks how fast the diver is ascending as one feet per second is recommended.
Some of the well-known diver’s watches are:

Omega the first wristwatch brand to produce a diver’s watch, the Marine. (1932)
Officine Panerai (1938)
From LIP and Blancpain, the Fifty Fathoms (1953)
Rolex Submariner (1956) revolution.
Rolex Dweller (1967)

Omega Seamaster Professional 600m, known as Omega PloProf between the circle of collectors.
