NEW Tag Heuer Monaco Concept 24 Chronograph (Steve McQueen’s)

(Tag Heuer Monaco Concept 24 Chronograph)

The NEW Tag Heuer Monaco Concept 24 Chronograph, one of the Baselworld 2009 innovations. It features the blue and orange Gulf sign, which was the mythic Steve McQueens team.

The Monaco Concept 24 Chronograph is the latest groundbreaking. It is based on the mythic Monaco. The watch features an incredible high-tech unique tubular design which, together with extreme shock-protecting components, were both inspired by Le Mans endurance race cars. The TAG Heuer Calibre 36 movement inside the oversized (40.5mm) black PVD-coated case is suspended within a steel-tube housing very much like a race car’s driver’s protective cockpit cage and visible through the dial face and the sapphire crystal caseback.

The new Monaco Concept 24 Chronograph components were insulated against shock and torque by a composite filter material used in aerospace and auto racing. Its large-faced, black-textured dial bears an oversize “24″ at 12 o’clock, in honour of the 24 of Le Mans, and the iconic blue and orange livery of Gulf Oil – the same colours TAG Heuer Ambassador Steve McQueen wore in his 1970 film classic, Le Mans.

Water resistant to 100 metres, The Steve McQueen’s new model watch contains anti-reflective double-sided treatment on the curved sapphire scratch-resistant crystal glass, which is TAG Heuer’s R&D team’s most daring creation to date.

Graham launches the NEW Chronofighter Trigger Tourbillograph

.

(Graham Chronofighter Trigger Tourbillograp)

Extremely well known as “the father of the chronograph”, George Graham (1673-1751) has also been the man who had great ideas and invented the first wall chronograph or mercury pendulum.
Commissioned by the Greenwich Royal Observatory to create the master watch used by the astronomers, Graham became the first and great watchmaker of eighteenth century named by the Royal society. To continue with this spirit of extraordinary innovations and technical ability, Graham is nowadays a contemporary firm of watches dedicated to those who are enthusiastic about mechanic arts.

[Complete Graham’s history]

Graham debuts the Chronofighter Trigger Tourbillograph

Four years ago, Graham decided to make a timepiece in order to pay tribute to the genius of its namesake, famous British watchmaker George Graham. To achieve this goal, the brand joined with well-known movement manufacturer La Joux-Perret (with whom it partnered on the development of Graham’s chronograph foudroyante).
The result of years of making their best innovations, we are able to enjoy the result: the Automatic Chronofighter Trigger Tourbil-lograph, a combination of tourbillon and chronograph with a unique ‘British eccentric’ off-centre tourbillon.

The movement powering this timepiece is the Graham Caliber G1780, a tourbillon with column-wheel chronograph, known as ‘roue À colonne’ in French. Available in a 46mm 18 carat 5N red gold case, the new Tourbillograph features a domed sapphire crystal on the front and a flat see-through back. The frequency of its movement is 28,800, while the spiral, balance, escapement wheels and anchor are reinforced with an Incabloc anti-shock system. The Tourbillograph’s tourbillon cage weighs just 0.485 grams and is made of 48 pieces.
The Automatic Chronofighter Trigger Tourbil-lograph comes in five variations – Ruthenium, Havana, Raven Black, Carbon Black and All Black.

Rolex Accuracy

ACCORDING TO ACCURACY

Wilsdorf was the visionary man who created an accurate wristwatch that can be compared to the finest contemporary mechanical chronometers around the globe.
In 1905, when Wilsdorf and Alfred James Davis created Wilsdorf & Davis they never imagined how important the company would become. At the very beginning, the company was just two businessmen trying to make a living in a hard environment. When Wilsdorf registered “Rolex” as the trade mark in Switzerland and began to use the name inside the watches on movements and cases, he then started advertising the name in order to make people asking for the watches by their name: Rolex.
In 1914, perfected Rebberg obtained a Kew A certificate for one of their 11”’ movements. The Royal Observatory at Kew (in London) was an outstation of the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, where all the initial work on accurate time keeping had been initiated such as: the search for a method of accuracy finding longitude, the institution of an universal time standard, the development of the first marine chronometer and the establishment of a central facility to test timepieces and certify them were all products of Greenwich. Its principal purpose was to teste marine chronometers, whose accuracy was vital to marine navigation until the 1930’s. The Kew tests were designed to time watches for the Royal Navy would offer to purchase it. Beyond that, based on the chronometer tests at Kew major manufacturers could state that their watches were the most accurate in the world becoming another powerful sales promotion device. Wilsdorf put Rolex watches through such test. Rolex was the only watch in the world to hold a Kew A certificate, getting to promote the success.
In order to avoid hurting the watches badly while they were imported to London, Hans Wilsdorf was finally convinced to move the administrative offices of the company from London to Geneva. Later, when it started exporting to United States of America, Wilsdorf made another astute move. While the European market was sinking as a consequence of the war, the American one was rising from the dust. Once again, Rolex was in the right place at the right time.
