.
.

The Hublot Big Bang King All Black Blue watch gets to be a perfect diver’s style timepiece. With 48m wide, it includes the 300 meters of water resistance, a diver’s style face with large legible dial, and the rotating diver bezel (made of matte finished ceramic). The fact of being blue on the hands and hour indicators makes it seem to almost exist only on the periphery, even the insides are coloured black, the edges are all deep blue. Most of the watch is in matte ceramic. Inside is the HUB1400 automatic movement. The blue alligator strap makes it more flexible. According to its dial, it is a sandblasted and rhodium plated one. Blancpain Super Trofeo Chronograph: The high-powered alliance between two legends

Blancpain and Lamborghini have joined forces in creating an exceptional automobile championship. Played out over six events per year, the Super Trofeo stars a fi eld of the newest Lamborghini Gallardos. To celebrate these superlative races, the Manufacture in Le Brassus is presenting a Super Trofeo fl yback chronograph, a resolutely sporting watch with a production run limited to 300.

Encounters between two myths are bound to engender exceptional events. The alliance between the world’s oldest watch brand and one of the most iconic car manufacturers has resulted in the creation of an exceptional automobile championship. The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo is not only the fi rst Lamborghini racing series, but also to become – right from the start of the fi rst race in May – the world’s fastest and most demanding single-make championship.

Gleaming Lamborghini Gallard LP560-4 cars – the latest version of this legendary model – are to face off on six equally fabled race tracks during the year 2009. Each of these speed machines bears the colours of the watch manufacturer, while the car driven by Blancpain’s President and CEO, Marc A. Hayek, is entirely dedicated to the brand.

For Marc A. Hayek and Stephan Winkelmann, respectively at the head of Blancpain and

Lamborghini, this partnership in a joint championship enables them to fulfi l the dreams of many devotees of exceptional mechanical engineering. When Lamborghini decided to join the race to push the boundaries of speed, its decision to work with Blancpain – a watch brand renowned for its pioneering sprit and mechanical expertise – was a natural choice for this high-octane union.

The fi rst single-make racing series in Lamborghini’s history, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo 2009 features six European events scheduled from May through October, at Adria (Italy), Norisring (Germany), Spa Francorchamps (Belgium), Silverstone (United Kingdom), as well Catalunya (Spain) and Paul Ricard (France).

Blancpain Supertrofeo Chronograph

Cutting-edge technology

Boasting exceptional performances fuelled by 570 HP and 540 N/m torque enabling it to reach top speeds of over 300 km/h, the latest racing version of the Gallardo line from Lamborghini is a truly exceptional car. Its mettlesome character and its taut, sophisticated lines have inspired the Blancpain designers and master-watchmakers in creating the latest gem from the Manufacture in Le Brassus: the Super Trofeo Chronograph endowed with a fl yback function. Like the powerful engine of the Gallardo, this new Blancpain chronograph displays state-of-the-art design and all

the attributes of cutting-edge technology.

The case specifi cally designed for this prestigious line is inspired by the sleek profi le of the Lamborghini Gallardo. Crafted in steel coated with a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) treatment – blacker than ruthenium and more resistant than PVD – the 43.5 mm-diameter case that is waterresistant to 100 metres features alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces. Highly sought after for its hardness and its anti-allergenic nature, as well as its intense colour, DLC treatment combines the properties of diamantine carbon (hardness, insulation, chemical resistance) with those of graphite (black colour, elasticity). Based on state-of-the-art technologies, DLC is a treatment applied in thin layers (sometimes less than 2 μm) by a “ vacuum deposit ” process.

Moreover, DLC boasts an extremely low friction coeffi cient and remarkable chemical inertia, two qualities that ensure excellent resistance to wear, corrosion and friction, as well as a flexible kind of hardness.

Blancpain Supertrofeo Chronograph I

Black is black

At this heart of this new sophisticated and performance-oriented case, the Blancpain Super Trofeo Chronograph, lies its throbbing “ engine ”, Calibre F185. To reinforce its dynamic nature, the movement of the Blancpain Super Trofeo has been coated by NAC – a state-of-theart electroplating treatment that blackens the movement bridges and main plate. The mechanical self-winding Calibre F185 is endowed with a 40-hour power reserve and comprises 308 parts.

This movement powers a range of functions including hour, minute, small seconds and date display at 6 o’clock, as well as the chronograph indications with a central sweep seconds hand, 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock. For instant-measurement enthusiasts, the Calibre F185 also drives a “ fl yback ” function. The unmistakable black dial is distinguished by two red and white 9 and 12 o’clock numerals stylised to evoke the numbers painted on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 racing cars. Another exclusive feature of this exceptional model is its gold oscillating weight engraved with the inscription “ Super Trofeo 2009 ”.

A sports model through and through, the Blancpain Super Trofeo Chronograph is teamed with a strap in alcantara – like the seats in the Lamborghini Gallardo – secured by a steel folding clasp. Available in a limited edition of 300 with its individual number engraved on the case-back – the Blancpain Super Trofeo Chronograph comes in a presentation box inspired by the taut, opulent lines of the ultra-dynamic Gallardo.

.

Limited edition of just 150 watches the Monaco V4. It is the only Tag Heuer watch made from platinum (170 grams of it), fact that gives to it its modern style.

.

The Monaco V4 changes inspired from car engines. Like mechanical watches, it engines has the same concepts: transmission, friction, torque and power. But, the Tag Heuer First uses a 4.25-gram platinum ingot which acts as a sort of cylinder, in a linear movement. Then, changes the transmission of power from the traditional wheels to a drive-belt transmission: 13 belts with a gauge measure of 0.5 x 0.45mm.

.
The Monaco V4 uses 2.2mm diameter bearings with 0.25mm balls rotating inside, rather than synthetic rubies to reduce friction acting as energy generators with bridges made of transparent sapphire.

.
The Monaco V4 wristwatch was presented at Baselworld in 2004. Then, in 2007, a production ready piece was shown. 2009 was the year in which the Monaco V4 watch version was finally presented.

BLANCPAIN, THE PRIVILEGED PARTNER OF PRESTIGE YACHTING

For the fifth consecutive year, Blancpain is dropping anchor in the Old Port of Cannes. A partner of the 32nd edition of the International Boat Show, Blancpain is marking the occasion by announcing the worldwide launch of its brand-new 500 Fathoms diver’s watch. And as the icing on the cake, the Manufacture from Le Brassus is presenting a world first on the Blancpain booth: a 500 Fathoms Cannes 2009 limited series of 50 dedicated to sea-lovers.

The Blancpain story is written in “navy” blue since 1953, the debut year of the first modern diver’s watch, the Fifty Fathoms. Blancpain regularly celebrates its historical ties with the maritime world. In 2007, Blancpain naturally chose the Cannes International Boat Show to launch its “new wave” Fifty Fathoms watch. This year, to mark its fifth participation in the prestigious yachting event, Blancpain is announcing the launch of its brand-new 500 Fathoms and presenting a special edition of this model, issued in a limited series of 50.

The resolutely sporting 500 Fathoms is making a noteworthy entrance into the collection of Blancpain diver’s watches. Endowed with a new face, new dimensions and new performances, the 500 Fathoms may in some ways be considered the “big sister” (size-wise) of the famous Fifty Fathoms*. Measuring an impressive 48 mm in diameter, the new 500 Fathoms is water-resistant to 1000 metres. An automatic decompression valve, placed inside the brushed titanium case, guarantees the security and reliability of the watch without requiring any handling on the part of the wearer.

To enhance legibility, Blancpain has designed large phosphorescent Arabic numerals engraved into sunbrushed metal appliques. The luminescent coating applied to the hour-markers, bezel markings and hands, as well as the red tip of the central seconds hand, ensures ideally convenient read-off in all circumstances. The black luminescent base of the dial reveals its fluorescence only in the dark. The oneway rotating bezel made from titanium and scratch-proof sapphire crystal is notched to facilitate handling and slightly cambered to reduce the risk of impacts.

The sapphire crystal back enables one to admire the entirely hand-decorated self-winding Calibre 1315 with its propeller-shaped oscillating weight. The 500 Fathoms Cannes 2009 model comes fitted with a black rubber-lined sail canvas strap, while an additional rubber strap and a dedicated tool to secure it lend the finishing touch to this set delivered in an ultra-sturdy watertight presentation box designed to withstand extreme conditions.

*Born in 1953 from Blancpain’s encounter with two French naval officers – Captain Robert “Bob” Maloubier and Lieutenant Claude Riffaud, who were entrusted by the French Ministry of Defence with creating an elite “Combat Divers” unit – the Fifty Fathoms proved its worth by displaying an ability to withstand the extreme conditions characteristic of underwater military operations. Named after the water resistance of the original model, guaranteed to a depth of 50 fathoms (91.45 metres), this mechanical masterpiece soon earned a reputation for reliability and sturdiness, thereby asserting itself as the archetypal modern diver’s watch.

Omega and Sports: Its conexion to the Swimming, Polo and Athletics World.

Omega was the first company to be entrusted with the official timekeeping of all disciplines at the Los Angeles Games in 1932 using chronographs and stop-watches developed by its subsidiary Lémania. Omega’s association with the Olympic Games led to well over half a century of pioneering developments in the field of sports timekeeping.

Omega and the Swimming World

Michael Phelps and Omega

(Michael Phelps – Swimmer)

The association between Omega and swimming dates back to 1932 when the brand was first entrusted with the official timekeeping of all disciplines at the Olympic Games including swimming.

The watchmaker symbolized by the Greek letter for perfection has had a decades-long partnership with the swimming world. In addition to its role as official FINA partner, it is also the Official Timekeeper of LEN (European Aquatics) and has served in many internationally renowned swimming competitions, among them the Pan Pacific Championships and, of course, the Olympic Games. This relationship has led to a long list of innovations in the field including the world’s first semi-automatic swimming timer, the Swim Eight-O-Matic Timer, first used at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, and the famous “touch pads” placed at each end of the pool for timekeeping at swimming events, first used at the Pan-American games in Winnipeg in 1967.

Omega and Golf

Michelle Wie - Omega - Golfer

(Michelle Wie – Golfer)

Omega is one of the few watch brands in the world with a history and tradition in golf. Founded in 1848, 12 years before the first-ever British Open took place at Prestwick golf course near Glasgow, Omega’s involvement in international golf today includes tour and tournament sponsorship as well as official timekeeping.

In 2007 Omega became the title sponsor of the World Cup of Golf. Founded in 1953, the World Cup is the oldest and most prestigious global golf team event, which invites two-man teams from 28 leading golfing nations to compete for the title. Under Omega’s sponsorship, the World Cup will be played at Mission Hills in China, the world’s largest golf complex, until at least 2018.

In order to commemorate its connection to the world of golf, Omega introduced a unique model to its popular and distinctive Constellation watch line. The OMEGA Constellation Double Eagle blends technical innovation with design excellence in a wristwatch which is at once elegant and sporty.

Omega and Athletics

athletics_in_beijing omega

OMEGA has always been committed to athletics timing and continuously develops its timing technology. Thanks to OMEGAtiming, Lausanne’s Athletissima meet on July 6, 1994 marked a milestone in sports history: at exactly 8:20pm, Omega timed the 1/100 second which made the American Leroy Burrell the new king of the 100 metres, in just 9.85 seconds! Precision to 1/100 second – how crucial timekeeping had become!

The brand is particularly proud to be associated with the Golden League Meetings in Berlin, Brussels, Monaco, Oslo, Paris, Rome and Zurich – where Omega is the official timekeeper.

US Open Torunament History

US Open

The US Open, the one being enjoyed at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center originally started during a tournament started 127 years ago. It featured from exclusive men’s singles and doubles tournament in 1881 to a two-week sports, changing its name from the U.S Championships to the US Open and its location from Rhode Island to Pennsylvania to its current home in Flushing, N.Y.

The first U.S. National Singles Championship for men was held at the Newport Casino in Newport, R.I., in August 1881, the beginning of a 34-year run for Newport as the center of tennis in the United States. Only clubs that were members of the United States National Lawn Tennis Association were permitted to enter the initial tournament. Men’s doubles was played in conjunction with men’s singles at the Newport Casino for the event’s first seven years, 1881-1886, before the U.S. Championships grew and spread out to other locales.

tennisball_racquet

In 1887, six years after the men’s nationals were instituted as an annual event, the first official U.S. Women’s National Singles Championship was held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, joined by women’s doubles in 1889. The U.S. Mixed Doubles Championship officially began in 1892 and was played in conjunction with the women’s singles and women’s doubles until 1921, when it was combined with the men’s doubles program of the U.S. National Championships.

The five major events of the U.S. National Championships/US Open have been contested at nine different locations since the inception of the men’s singles event in Newport. All five finally came together when the women’s doubles tournament moved to the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, N.Y., at the advent of the Open Era in 1968, and all five moved to the US Open’s current location, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., in 1978.

Overall, the West Side Tennis Club has hosted the most championships, 210, with the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center standing at 150 through 2007. Men’s doubles has been played at the greatest number of sites (eight), while women’s singles has been the least traveled, having only been hosted by the Philadelphia Cricket Club, the West Side Tennis Club and the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

A total of $100,000 was offered by the USTA to the field of 96 men and 64 women who entered the men’s and women’s singles and doubles at the 1968 US Open. Today, the US Open offers more than $20.6 million to a field of more than 600 men and women, including qualifying. In 2004, the US Open added the Olympus US Open Series Bonus Challenge, potentially pushing the 2008 US Open prize money to $23.2 million.

Jaeger LeCoultre and Polo: the Reverso 78th Anniversary.

Polo is a team sport played on horseback; it was first played in Persia/Iran in 600 B.C. or much earlier. It was, at first, a training game for cavalry units, usually the king’s guard or other elite troops. It was often played with as many as 100 to a side, like a miniature battle.

It soon became an Iranian national sport played by the nobility and during the medieval times, it was the favourite sport of the Ayyubid and Mameluke dynasties of Egypt and the Levant. It later passed from Persia to other parts of Asia including the Indian subcontinent and China, were it became really popular during Tang Dynasty.

The game was played from Constantinople to Japan by the Middle Ages, it was known as the Game of the Kings. Its name, Polo, is said to have been derived from the Tibetan word “pulu”, meaning ball.

The modern game of polo, even though it was formalized and popularized by the British, it really derived from Manipur (India). It was then in 1834, where the first polo club was established in a little town in India called Silchar, in Assam.

According to Great Britain, the first polo club was established in 1862 by two soldiers who then spread the game to their peers in England. The British are credited with spreading polo worldwide in the late 19th century and the early 20th century.

Field polo requires two teams of 4 players. A full-size field is 300 yards long, and either 200 yards or 160 yards wide if there are side boards—these are generally 6″ high. There are tall collapsable goalposts at each end of the field spread 8 yards apart. The object of the game is to score the most goals by hitting the ball through the goal. Ends are changed after a goal is scored. Polo found popularity in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Pakistan and the United States of America.

Jaeger LeCoultre has had a very closed relationship with equestrian polo sin 1931. Such closed relationship that the Reverso, by Jaeger LeCoultre, was designed speacially to withstand the rough and stumble, both characteristic of the sport.

In 2006 it was the Reverso 75th anniversary. In order to celebrate such event, the company sponsored numerous polo events like hosting the Maharaja Sir Pratap Singh Cup.

A Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso watch is distinguished among thousand of watches. Icon of the high watchmaking, Jaeger Le-coultre Reverso is distinguished by its elegant case that slides along its base to rotate on itself. Its sober and strong lines are based on the Art Déco style: clear and sober aesthetic, passion for the hand made “savoir-faire”, for the precious materials and the good life style. The rotation of its case is an invitation to play with the time. Exaltation of the spirit , Jaeger Le-coultre Reverso shows its duality having a second face. Only a rotation is needed for the watch to become into a jewel that can be personalized with an eternal seal. It makes the people sights to follow the tic tac of its trains o shows a second esphera. In more than 70 years, not only has Jaeger Le-coultre Reverso become a legend, but also a jewel into the watchmaking. This big classic of the Art Déco is the inspiration of the best watchmakers and inventors who only wish to imagine new interpretation for this line.
